LOES DEANERY MAGAZINE - July 1943

EARL SOHAM.

The outstanding event during June has been the Week of Prayer and Gifts in support of the Diocesan Reserve Fund to meet the post-war needs of the Diocese. Coming so soon after the "Wings for Victory Week" and many other appeals (which are legion), we can consider the result satisfactory. The pamphlets and envelopes were distributed throughout the parish and in Church on June 6th, and those who contributed very kindly placed them on the plate on Whit-sunday. The total amounted to £12 1s. 7d., which has been forwarded to the Bishop. In addition to these envelopes, the children returned the Whitsun Farthing envelopes in the afternoon and it is most gratifying to record that instead of there being a decrease as most people thought, there was an increase of nearly 100 farthings on last year - 600 in all. The children take a real interest in this giving, and no doubt as the years go by it brings before them the need of the Church, and that they can do something to help forward the work of their Master.

Empire Day - The late Canon Abbay's Charity was distributed with a short service and address on the Monday. The children's sports unfortunately had to be postponed owing to the weather, but they assembled for tea in the Village Hall. The sports were held on the Wednesday. The children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, the weather being perfect. We would like to thank the teachers, for so kindly making the neces-sary preparation, and those who helped. It gives an opportunity for impressing on the children the responsibilities of our Great Empire, and that they are members of it.

We congratulate Mr. Pettit and Miss Chittock on the occasion of their wedding, which took place on June 9th, and we wish them every happiness in their new life and home.

We all sympathise with Mr. and Mrs. Geoffrey Bloomfield on the sad loss of their little baby girl, who died on June 15th. May the Holy Spirit grant them consolation in this time of great sorrow.

BAPTISM.
June 6. Jennifer Jane Hart.

BURIAL.
