Golden Jubilee
Celebrations: Treasure Hunt
The Treasure
through the village was combined with a "Gardens Open"
afternoon. You could visit the gardens without taking part in the Treasure
Hunt, or do the Treasure Hunt and ignore everything in the gardens apart
from the clues (a popular option with the youngsters!), or do both (and
probably run out of time!).
The pictures below
show the crowds gathered at the start ("hunt01" to "hunt04")
being given their instructions by a harrassed organiser (see the
background of "hunt04"). The other pictures were taken of the
hunters starting off ("hunt05" and "hunt06") and in
the open gardens. In one garden (see the first picture) the vehicles were
spotted all lined up for the Earl Soham Grand Prix - except that the
drivers were missing!
One owner was
caught in the act of still preparing his garden for visitors ("hunt11"),
and another owner had set up a quiet 'get-away-from-it-all' corner to
escape the hordes ("hunt13")! It all seemed rather much for one
group of participants, who just sat down on a door-step ("hunt14").
The final stage of
the hunt was a grass maze, shown with and without people on the next page
of photos.
The winning team
very generously offered round a share of their prize to all the losers
(see second photo, below).
